September is National Physician Suicide Awareness Month
September is National Physician Suicide Awareness Month and Sept. 17 is the sixth annual National Physician Suicide Awareness Day. It’s estimated that between 300 and 400 physicians die by suicide each year, with physicians at a greater risk of experiencing distress.

The awareness day is dedicated to honoring the memory of colleagues who have died by suicide and to continue to raise awareness and discussion on how to prevent it.
National Physician Suicide Awareness Day has compiled a list of resources for physicians at www.Npsaday.org.

The Indiana Hospital Association’s Indiana Patient Safety Center (IPSC) has also created toolkits with a variety of resources. Suicide Awareness Month Toolkit includes social media posts, printable posters and fact sheets, resources to share with the community, and resources for caregivers and medical professionals.
