Be prepared for Indiana Medicaid records requests
The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) has announced the Review Year 2021 (RY2021) CMS Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM) will start this fall.

The Improper Payments Information Act of 2002 requires physicians to submit selected medical record documentation to federal contractors during the RY2021 PERM cycle. Later this year and into 2020, physicians may be contacted by AdvanceMed, the federal review contractor, requesting copies of their medical records to support a medical review of a claim.

Before PERM begins, it is important to ensure that your provider enrollment information is up to date. This information can be viewed and updated using the Provider Maintenance link in the IHCP Provider Healthcare Portal, accessible from the home page at in.gov/medicaid/providers.

Previous cycles have shown that insufficient documentation or lack of documentation is a principal cause of error and can easily be prevented by responding to the contractor’s requests and ensuring that all contact information is updated. For more information about updating provider information, see the Update Your Provider Profile page at in.gov/medicaid/providers.
