ISMA (virtual) district meetings: Why you’ll want to attend
ISMA district meetings are underway and will continue through the end of June. These annual meetings – held virtually this year – provide an opportunity to meet physician colleagues in your geographic area, chat with longtime friends and hear about member initiatives and legislative news from ISMA staff and local lawmakers. It’s also your chance to vote for district officers; in some districts this year, that includes trustees or alternate trustees who will serve as your voice in the ISMA House of Delegates and help set ISMA’s policy and legislative agenda.

Emails with detailed instructions on how to register for 2021 district meetings and elections have been sent, and links to register are below. If you haven’t already registered, please sign up at your earliest convenience.

To attend, you must register for the meeting using your ISMA login and password. After registration, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a calendar invitation and Zoom link for your specific meeting. To participate in elections, you must be an ISMA member and be registered for the meeting.

The duties of each district officer position are as follows:

District president: Serves as an ambassador to help increase local awareness about ISMA; promotes advocacy locally by facilitating member connections to legislators; serves as a liaison to ISMA and provides local information; helps identify physicians for various opportunities and leadership roles; assists ISMA staff in planning annual district meeting and presiding over the district business meeting; identifies and targets local physician contacts to build or retain membership in concert with ISMA staff.

District trustee: Serves as an ambassador to increase local awareness about ISMA; serves as a liaison to ISMA and provides local information; helps identify physicians for various opportunities and leadership roles; represents the district as a voting member of the ISMA Board of Trustees (the ISMA executive body), which meets quarterly at ISMA headquarters; represents the district as a voting member of the House of Delegates (the ISMA policy making body), which meets during the ISMA annual convention each fall.

District alternate trustee: Serves as an ambassador to increase local awareness about ISMA; serves as a liaison to ISMA and provides local information; helps identify physicians for various opportunities and leadership roles; represents the district as a nonvoting member of the ISMA Board of Trustees and votes in place of the trustee when the trustee is not in attendance; represents the district as a nonvoting member of the House of Delegates and votes in place of the trustee when the trustee is not in attendance.
