Online resources for physicians help destigmatize, treat addiction
As a “Know the Facts champion,” ISMA is committed to helping the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA)  reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorders (SUDs). Several resources on the state’s Know the Facts website are aimed at health care professionals looking for ways to assist patients with SUDs or who are at risk for addiction.

In addition to the initiative’s homepage, the following FSSA webpages have information of special interest to physicians.

Health care professionals and first responders. This page has information on patient education, signs of overdose, naloxone (Narcan), fentanyl safety, opioid prescribing, safe disposal and storage and Indiana’s prescription drug monitoring program, INSPECT.

Treatment. In addition to information on how to get help for oneself or another person who needs treatment for SUD, there is information on medication assisted treatment (MAT) for SUDs. The page includes a locator for methadone, naltrexone and buprenorphine/naloxone providers across the state.

Stories of recovery. This inspirational campaign features beautifully animated videos of real Hoosiers talking about recovery and how it has changed their lives. A link at the bottom of the page enables readers to send well wishes to Hoosiers who are in recovery.

Resources to help Hoosier communities. Resources here include promotional toolkits in Spanish and English, fact sheets, videos and graphics and stigmatizing language to avoid.
