ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr. Dike Drummond is a Mayo trained Family Practice doctor, burnout survivor, professional coach, author, speaker and trainer whose sole professional focus since 2011 has been addressing the modern burnout epidemic in physicians.  He founded TheHappyMD.com, which has more than 17,000 physician subscribers in 63 countries.  

He teaches simple methods to lower stress, build more life balance and prevent burnout.  His comprehensive experience with individual doctors in all specialties and healthcare organizations of all sizes has led him to create some ground-breaking resources.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 

Often physicians forget to care for their most important patient each day - themselves.  Our goal is to offer an in-person, interactive workshop that will provide tangible tools to help Indiana physicians rediscover their joy in medicine.

Three distinct sessions will be held covering

1) Burnout Proof Live Workshop:  Lower Stress, Prevent Burnout, Build a More Ideal Practice
Upon completion of this session, attendees will:

  • Understand the difference between stress and burnout
  • Understand the three main symptoms of burnout and how they differ in men and women
  • Be able to recognize burnout in yourself and others
  • Understand the association between burnout and quality of care, safety and medical errors and patient satisfaction
  • Understand burnout’s pathophysiology, complications and four main causes
  • Learn and practice six burnout prevention tools
  • Develop their own written, personal burnout prevention strategies and maintain care quality and patient satisfaction over the full course of their careers

2) Physician Leadership Power Tools:  Essential Leadership Skills for Team-Based Care
Upon completion of this session, attendees will:

  • Identify the default physician leadership paradigm and its problems
  • Learn a leadership paradigm of trust, teamwork and performance that is matched to the needs of a straddle leader
  • Learn and practice five skills to create a culture of trust and high performance on their teams
  • Develop a personal, written action plan to deploy one of the above tools with their teams to create more teamwork, higher quality of care and better patient satisfaction


3) Physician's Guide to Navigating a Bureaucracy:  How to Manage Your Boss
From this point forward in the American healthcare system, most physicians will be in an employee position. The medical education process does not prepare them for this position in the middle of a bureaucracy. This interactive, high-energy workshop teaches how to manage your boss and get what you need what you need to build your Ideal Practice from within a bureaucracy.

Upon completion of this session, attendees will:

  • Get the support they need to create a more ideal practice
  • Learn the keys to influence inside a bureaucracy
  • Learn how to effectively manage their bosses
  • Recognize when to ask forgiveness and when to ask permission
  • Build a personal, written action plan to use one of the above tools to build a more ideal practice with better-quality care and higher levels of patient satisfaction
