Summary: The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA), the largest physician member organization in Indiana, is seeking two medical students (one each from the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine) to serve as the ISMA’s health policy fellows this summer. The fellows will help with a variety of exciting physician advocacy projects. The fellows will assist the ISMA Government Relations team in reviewing and analyzing the implementation and impact of newly enacted regulations, researching health care policy, reviewing proposed resolutions (ISMA public policy) to be considered at the ISMA Annual Convention in the fall, and a number of other eye-opening endeavors at ISMA. This is a great opportunity for any medical student, especially those who plan on being involved with health care advocacy and shaping health care’s influence in society.
The fellowship is a part-time, paid position. Each fellow will be compensated with a $3,000 stipend (before taxes) for their participation in the fellowship. Generally speaking, the fellowship will begin on Tuesday, June 1, 2027, and conclude on Friday, July 30, 2027. While the hours are flexible based on the students’ schedules, fellows are expected to work weekdays (Monday through Friday) over approximately eight weeks during ISMA’s business hours, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ISMA’s employees currently work in a hybrid format. Consistent with ISMA’s employees, fellows are required to work from ISMA’s office in downtown Indianapolis on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fellows are permitted to work remotely (from home) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Fellows are not required to work on any ISMA-designated holidays during the fellowship (Independence Day).
