On Sept. 8, ISMA announced a new public education campaign in collaboration with the American Medical Association (AMA). “Your Care Is at Our Core” is an AMA initiative in 13 states, including Indiana, saluting physicians for their commitment to their patients’ health, and celebrating the effectiveness of physician-led health care teams.
As part of the campaign, ISMA will promote Your Care Is at Our Core through traditional and social media channels in the coming months.
During the 175th Annual ISMA Convention, AMA President Bruce A. Scott, MD, spoke during the House of Delegates closing session, complimenting the ISMA for its past and current efforts to enhance the well-being of all Hoosiers and the practice of medicine.
“The AMA is your ally in patient care,” Dr. Scott said. “I want to recognize that an important part of that alliance is the Indiana State Medical Association and the incredible things you’ve done for over 175 years. That’s amazing. The (AMA) is only two years older than (the ISMA). … For 175 years, since 1849, Indiana physicians have answered the call. They have stood up to the challenges.
“… In our practice at the AMA, we are pushing for the same things that you are pushing for. We need to stop dwelling upon the things that divide us as a profession and begin uniting for the things that are most important to us. What is at our core: the care of our patients.”
ISMA member David Welsh, MD, a general surgeon from Batesville, was recognized during Dr. Scott’s presentation for his recent election to the AMA Board of Trustees. A
resolution of appreciation was also presented to Dr. Welsh by his peers for his commitment to ISMA and the AMA.
