ISMA member Jerome Adams, MD named Sagamore of the Wabash

An ISMA member, confirmed U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, MD, MPH, received Indiana’s highest honor today when he was named a Sagamore of the Wabash.

Gov. Eric Holcomb bestowed the honor on Dr. Adams, who led the state’s successful effort to stem an HIV epidemic in rural Scott County linked to injected opioids. Dr. Adams also spearheaded initiatives to reduce infant mortality and monitor returning travelers for the Zika virus.

“The Sagamore represents two and a half years of partnership with people throughout the state of Indiana,” Adams said after the presentation. “I couldn’t be more proud to have received (this award) from Gov. Holcomb, and I hope that I can continue to make him proud and make Indiana proud as I take many of the lessons learned to the national level.”
