ISMA joined 45 state medical associations in sending
a letter urging Senate leaders to reject the damaging cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and medical student loan programs in the Senate Finance Committee’s draft budget reconciliation bill.
The letter from the Coalition of State Medical Associations warns that the planned cuts will seriously harm
access to health care for all Americans.
The letter to Majority Leader John Thune, Minority Leader Charles Schumer, Finance Committee Chair Michael Crapo, and Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden offers a series of recommendations for revising the bill:
- Eliminate Provider Tax Cuts
- Reduce Work Requirement Administrative Red Tape
- Reverse the Student Loan Cuts that Exacerbate Physician Shortages
The letter also urges the Senate to stop the 2.8% payment cut physicians experienced in 2025, and provide an inflation update to keep pace with rising costs of operating a medical practice.
Sen. Thune has set a goal of completing work on the reconciliation bill by the Fourth of July.
