Fellows join the team for the summer

  Vaishnavi Chouhan
Vaishnavi Chouhan, a second-year medical student at Marian University Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine, began her summer fellowship last week. She will assist the government relations team research expiring resolutions and new resolutions introduced for the 177th ISMA Convention.

“I am excited about this health policy fellowship because it will allow me to meet new people, learn from their experiences and build meaningful professional connections,” Chouhan said. “I am especially interested in understanding how government agencies and physicians can collaborate to create better health outcomes for communities.”

Chouhan is still exploring different specialties and said she wants to enter her third year with an open mind.

“I enjoy building relationships with people and understanding how health care can improve patients’ overall well-being,” she said. “Through opportunities like this fellowship, I hope to gain more exposure to different areas of medicine before deciding on a specialty.”

  Bella Concannon
Bella Concannon, a second-year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine, began her summer fellowship at the beginning of June. She will similarly assist the government relations team with researching expiring and newly introduced resolutions.

“I am interested in better understanding the background and implementation of health care policy,” Concannon said. “As someone interested in public health, I am also looking forward to seeing how government action translates into community health.”

Concannon added that, though she doesn't have a specific specialty in mind and is excited to explore different medical fields, she is curious about the work of various pediatric specialists.
