New resources help with telehealth, information blocking rules
The AMA has created comprehensive new resources on two topics of significant interest to Indiana physicians and others – optimizing and sustaining telehealth services and compliance with the complex new federal information blocking rules.

Telehealth Immersion Program

This module is part of the AMA’s STEPS Forward Innovation Academy and includes webinars, interactive peer-to-peer learning sessions, virtual discussions, bootcamps and other resources. It uses the Telehealth Initiative as a framework and is available to physicians, practices, and health systems at no cost.

Visit the Telehealth Immersion Program website for more information and to sign up for available sessions; other sessions will be added continually, according to the AMA. Registration is now open for the following topics: Measuring the value of virtual care, clinical case study: telehealth for mental and behavioral health, health care technology and the human connection, and implementing innovative solutions with an equity lens.

Information blocking rules

On April 5, the new information blocking rules from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology took effect. This complex federal regulation implements the interoperability provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act and aims to give patients more control over their own health records by ending practices that impede access, exchange or use of patients' electronic health information.

“The AMA supports the Cures Act’s purposes to increase information sharing between patients and physicians, improve patient care, and ensure electronic health information follows patients, said AMA Immediate Past Chair Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH. “However, the regulation is complex with dozens of exceptions, sub-exceptions, and conditions. Physicians can turn to the AMA resources for reliable help that explains what the new rule means for them and their medical practices.”

These resources are available through the  AMA Ed Hub™ online learning platform and include the following.
