SilverSneakers, a free benefit of the Medicare supplement through
ISMA Insurance Agency, provides exercise opportunities to adults age 65 and older. Participants can go to the gym, take live online classes, or access an on-demand library of workouts. It’s one more benefit available to physicians at retirement age.
“I live an active lifestyle and love going to the gym, so this is an extra benefit I love to promote because I know how much exercise and movement help shape our mood and what kind of day you can have,” said Client Service Representative
Rachel Patting.
Data supports the effectiveness of the program:
- 88% of participants say SilverSneakers has improved their quality of life.
- 58% report that they have made new and valuable friendships through the program.
- 88% say they can do more than they previously thought possible.
The SilverSneakers website offers a map of participating gyms. From national gym chains to local community centers, more than 22,000 fitness locations across the U.S. are available to members.
Whether indoors or outdoors, beginner or experienced, SilverSneakers has fitness classes for everyone. All classes are led by instructors and can be accessed through the free mobile app. For those who live far from a gym or prefer exercising at home, SilverSneakers Community Classes are available. These instructor-led classes take place at community centers, parks or online via platforms like Burnalong. Options include outdoor walking groups, nutrition workshops and more.
SilverSneakers also offers a Tuition Rewards program. Members can earn points toward a designated student’s college tuition by attending participating locations or classes.
Participants receive 1,000 Tuition Rewards Points when they sign up. Then, by visiting a participating location or attending SilverSneakers LIVE classes seven times a month, they can earn an additional 250 points. Each point equals $1 in tuition discounts at more than 500 colleges and universities. Rewards points are credited within 60 days and are applied in equal installments over four years of college. Points are valid for up to one full year of tuition discounts.
