ISMA will host a live webinar, “Using Patient Feedback to Improve Medication Strategies for Opioid Use Disorder,” on Wednesday, June 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. ET. The session is accredited for 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credit™.
The program is free for ISMA members. The registration fee for nonmembers is $75. Registration is required by 6:30 p.m. ET on the day of the event. The webinar will be recorded for later viewing.
Led by emergency and addiction medicine physician
Krista Brucker, MD, the webinar will provide an in-depth overview of the latest best practices and emerging strategies for treating opioid use disorder (OUD). Topics will include novel buprenorphine initiation methods, long-acting injectable formulations, and the role of shared decision-making in delivering patient-centered care.
Dr. Brucker, a physician with South Bend Emergency Physicians and Oaklawn Psychiatric Center, will also examine the treatment landscape in Indiana and share practical strategies to help patients navigate gaps in care and transitions between providers. Attendees will review evidence on how stigma within the health care system can block access to care and learn steps to foster more compassionate, effective treatment for people who use drugs.
After the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Review current treatment approaches for OUD, including buprenorphine induction strategies and long-acting injectable use.
- Identify effective methods to help patients transition into care across gaps and between providers.
- Explain how stigma hinders treatment and apply strategies for improving patient interactions and outcomes.
Dr. Brucker is a former faculty member at the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine, where she developed Project POINT, an education-based intervention for individuals who survived an opioid overdose. She is the founding physician of the Oaklawn Addiction Medicine program and has served as a regional medical director for a national telehealth addiction medicine provider.
