ISMA will host a one-hour continuing medical education webinar, “Update on Perioperative Pain Control,” from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. Registration is now open. It will also be available in the app for download after the event.
The program will provide physicians with evidence-based strategies for implementing opioid-free perioperative care, emphasizing multimodal pain management approaches designed to improve patient outcomes while reducing reliance on opioids. The session will also examine the role of cannabinoids in the perioperative setting, including clinical considerations, potential benefits and associated risks.
In addition, the webinar will offer practical guidance for managing opioid-tolerant patients and individuals with substance use disorders, focusing on safe, effective and patient-centered care across the surgical continuum.
At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to assess the status of the opioid epidemic, describe methods for opioid-free perioperative care, explain the impact of cannabinoids on perioperative management, and develop treatment options for opioid-tolerant patients and those with substance use disorders.
The webinar will be presented by Don Selzer, MD, professor and chief of the Division of General Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. Selzer also serves as the Willis D. Gatch Professor of Surgery, program director of the Fellowship for Advanced Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery, and associate chair of the Department of Surgery. His clinical practice focuses on general surgery, including bariatric surgery, surgical management of gastroesophageal reflux and other foregut diseases, and complex abdominal hernia repair.
The program is accredited for a maximum of 1.0
AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with their participation. ISMA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The webinar is free for ISMA members and $75 for nonmembers.
