End of federal COVID emergency affects temporary licenses in Indiana
More than 1,500 physicians who received temporary licenses in Indiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic must apply for full licensing or lose their right to practice on May 11.

Executive orders issued by Gov. Eric Holcomb at the start of the pandemic granted emergency licenses to practitioners in 40 fields regulated by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA). With the end of the state’s two-year health emergency last year, the General Assembly passed a law allowing those temporary licenses to remain in place until the end of the federal health emergency declaration.

In February, the Biden Administration announced its plans to end the health emergency on May 11. The IPLA is warning license holders they need to apply for their unlimited license if they intend to continue practicing after that date.
