Prepare now to help vaccinate patients under 50 with comorbidities
The Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) this week announced that the next group to become eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations, after those ages 60-64 and 50-59, are Hoosiers under 50 with specific comorbidities. To help prepare, IDOH is asking physicians to begin collecting the names, birth dates, email addresses and cellphone numbers for all patients with the following conditions:
  • Down syndrome.
  • Post-solid organ transplant recipient.
  • Sickle cell disease.
  • Oncology patients actively undergoing cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery for their cancer) now or within the last three months.
  • Active primary lung cancer, multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma.

There is currently no set timetable for when IDOH will expand vaccine eligibility. ISMA is working with IDOH on more detailed plans for this phase of the vaccine rollout and will share additional information as it becomes known.
