Physicians can gain practical insight into applying artificial intelligence in clinical and public health settings during an upcoming ISMA webinar, “Making AI Work in the Real World: Practical Lessons from Clinical and Public Health Applications.”

The live program will take place Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, from 7 – 8 p.m. ET, and is accredited for 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. The event is free for ISMA members and $75 for nonmembers. Registration is required by 6:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 2.

Artificial intelligence is moving rapidly from concept to clinic, but real-world implementation remains challenging. This session will explore how AI tools are being used to detect reportable diseases, summarize complex clinical charts and analyze large EHR datasets for decision support.

Drawing on recent implementation projects, Shaun J. Grannis, MD, MS, FAAFP, FACMI, FAMIA, will share practical lessons about what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s next for safely integrating AI into health systems.

Participants will be able to:
  • Describe current AI applications in clinical and public health environments.
  • Evaluate common challenges in implementing AI tools.
  • Review best practices for integrating AI into workflows responsibly and effectively.
Dr. Grannis serves as vice president of data and analytics at the Regenstrief Institute, chief medical information officer at the Indiana Health Information Exchange, and professor of family medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
