Help us use social media to end surprise billing, protect patients

ISMA is committed to a surprise billing solution that accomplishes the dual goals of protecting patients from unexpected charges for services that insurance doesn’t cover and ensuring physicians receive fair payment from insurers. Please join us in letting Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) know that any legislative solution to surprise billing should include an independent dispute resolution process to determine physician compensation if medical professionals and insurers can’t agree.

You can help by sharing a link to this recent “Indianapolis Business Journal” article on social media and thanking Sen. Braun for supporting an arbitration option. Sen. Braun sits on the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee and is in a position to influence the outcome of a vote on legislation now being considered.

Another helpful link to share on social media with your thanks to Sen. Braun is this column by Alexander Choi, MD, vice speaker of the ISMA House of Delegates. The article, published recently in the “Current,” explains what is at stake for physicians and patients if compensation for uncovered medical costs is determined by “benchmarking” rather than arbitration.

Thank you for assisting ISMA and your fellow physicians with this important effort!
