Birth, death certifiers must register for new system; user support updated
If you are a death or birth certifier in Indiana and have not yet registered for DRIVE (Database for Registering Indiana’s Vital Events), the state’s new electronic vital records reporting system, it is important to register as soon as possible. For those who have already registered, new and updated support materials have been added.

To access the Indiana Department of Health’s new birth and death registration system, which went live Jan. 4, users must complete a two-step process.
  • First, register for an Access Indiana account here
  • Then, click on the DRIVE icon posted within Access Indiana to submit an e-request to link your active Genesis/DRIVE user profile to your Access Indiana account.
New user support materials have been added to the DRIVE website to help with vital records entry. The Frequently Asked Questions document has been updated to reflect current information and new questions the DRIVE team has received.

As a reminder, users can sign up for DRIVE any time, and instructor-led training continues online. Note: Medical certifier training is ONLY for death certifiers. Birth certifiers should sign up for a birth facilities training session.

Multiple DRIVE Quick Guides are available for each user role (links below). More thorough user guides are available on the website and cover in-depth process flows and questions.
