New, evidence-based resources available for physicians, volunteers
A new educational resource, developed with nationally recognized Indiana physicians, researchers and other thought leaders, has launched for physicians and volunteer health care workers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in Indiana.

The website, Educational Resources for Healthcare Providers, includes links to COVID-19 literature and best practices specific to Indiana and from around the world. It is compiled by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a collaboration of faculty and staff from Indiana University, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame who work to improve health statewide.

The site will be updated regularly and includes:
  • Patient presentations
  • Assessment and diagnosis
  • Management
  • Special populations
  • Physician and allied health care worker well-being

Physicians responding to the COVID-19 pandemic can also subscribe to Indiana CTSI’s COVID-19 Daily Digest to receive updates on emerging and relevant literature every day at noon.

The digest was developed to provide quick, daily access to relevant and emerging evidence-based information and to engage Indiana’s nationally recognized thought leaders and researchers, including physicians, to evaluate and inform Indiana practices, programs and policies.

The COVID-19 Daily Digest is made possible by a partnership between the CTSI’s Monon Collaborative and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). Daniel Rusyniak, MD, chief medical officer for the FSSA, helped jumpstart the project.

“I’ve seen the pandemic both as an emergency room physician and as part of the State’s COVID Response Team,” Dr. Rusyniak said. “In both arenas, it’s critical that we act on the best information fast, but the volume and speed of new information about this virus is impossible to keep up with.

“That’s why the Daily Digest is so critical to how we operate. Not only do I know where to go every day to read reviews of the latest information, I know I’m going to get an expert review I can trust. The website allows all of us at the Health Department and emergency departments to stay informed at a time when information can save lives.”

Besides physicians, allied health care providers and health systems, target audiences include managed care entities, community organizations and other professionals involved in the pandemic response. The digest now includes four substantive sections: A home page with updates at the local, state, national and international levels; expert reviews of relevant and emerging literature; expert responses to key state questions; and educational resources for physicians and allied health care providers.

Amy Gilbert, chief science officer for the FSSA, said the educational resources page will continue to be expanded and other physician faculty experts engaged.
