ISMA is holding this year’s in-person Women in Medicine Retreat at the critically acclaimed Hotel Carmichael in downtown Carmel. Hotel Carmichael, an Autograph Collection Hotel, is an architectural masterpiece inspired in part by the work of 18th-century architect Robert Adam. The venue delivers a distinguished hospitality experience, offering dining, refined meeting spaces, and live music daily.

SESSION TITLE: Likeable Badass: See One, Be One, Teach One

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This session gives women physicians the vocabulary for something they have felt their entire careers but never had words for — and then empowers them with ways to build, manage, maintain and spend status.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Explain the two-question model (warmth × competence) and distinguish status from power.
• Identify their own habitual over-correction — where they trade warmth for competence, or competence for warmth, when they don't have to.
• Name three concrete status moves they could plausibly try in the next thirty days.
• Describe how status-leveling behavior functions in physician–nurse dynamics and choose it deliberately rather than reflexively.
• Identify one person they will teach this concept to in the next year.

Heather M. Clark, MD, FACEP, is an emergency physician who loves her work in the rural EDs of Northeast IN.  She is also a wife, a mom, a medical missionary and a life coach for Christian perfectionists and people pleasers.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading books, writing, connecting with friends and salsa dancing.

SESSION TITLE: Becoming the Doctor of Tomorrow

Medicine is in a time of unprecedented change. We will identify the forces at play (such as AI, changes in payer models, etc) and discuss how we must evolve to sustain and thrive in the new healthcare landscape.

After 19 years in practice as a board-certified internal medicine physician and medical educator in traditional U.S. health care systems, Dr. Fick ventured into the insurance-free micro practice model to provide high-quality, affordable, and patient-centered primary care to her patients. Dr. Fick’s approach to medicine is centered around prevention, longevity, and a sturdy belief that the body is capable of self-care and healing through lifestyle optimization and sometimes a little Western medicine magic at Niche Medical and Consulting on the north side of Indianapolis. Dr. Fick also achieved certification from the Menopause Society and the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

SESSION TITLE: The Perimenopausal/Menopausal Transition: Not a Stop, just a Pause

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This session will break down the physiological changes of perimenopause/menopause transition, identify common symptoms women experience during this phase, and explore available therapeutic strategies to alleviate them. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Describe the stages of perimenopause/menopause, including the timeline these can be expected.
• Recognize common signs and symptoms of perimenopause/ menopause.
• Identify lifestyle measures to undertake to limit the disruptions of perimenopause/menopause.
• Evaluate medication options to limit the disruptions of perimenopause/menopause.
• Interpret findings from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) and newer studies which address safety concerns around Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT).

Jennie Lowell, MD, FACOG, joined Maitri Health Care, a private OB/GYN practice in Burlington, VT, where she has practiced ever since. She became a partner in 2006 and jokes that running a small business is harder than being a doctor! She practices as a full-scope OB/GYN and enjoys all aspects of women’s health and care.

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Attendees will leave with practical strategies for identifying their own priorities, evaluating career decisions, establishing meaningful boundaries, and intentionally creating a career and life that reflects what matters most to them.

Oculofacial and Orbital Surgeon, Director of Aesthetics, Innovative Ophthalmology

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Andrea Tooley, MD, is an oculofacial and orbital surgeon and Director of Aesthetics at Innovative Ophthalmology in Paducah, KY. She previously served as Associate Professor of Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery and Program Director of the Ophthalmology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Tooley’s clinical and research interests include orbital inflammatory and neoplastic disease, periocular rejuvenation, and reconstruction. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has received numerous awards for leadership, advocacy, and education. She is passionate about education, mentorship, and advancing ophthalmology.
