Program description:

In this just-in-time CME webinar, experienced health care attorneys from Krieg DeVault, LLP, will discuss the requirements put in place by the federal No Surprises Act when it takes effect on Jan. 1, 2022. This legislation, which protects patients from unexpected medical costs, will require health care providers to post notices of patient rights, issue good-faith estimates of charges and obtain patient consent for certain out-of-network costs. This presentation focuses on provider operations and will cover the essential forms and new provisions that health care providers must understand.

About our speakers:

Brandon W. Shirley has a diverse knowledge of Federal and State regulations. He has extensive experience with State and Federal Medicaid laws, regulations, policies, waiver programs, audits, and administrative appeals having previously served in top-level legal positions with the State of Indiana. His practice extends to Medicaid managed care policies, audits, and disputes. He has additional experience with Medicare and Medicaid pharmacy issues, including 340B drug pricing, telehealth and telemedicine, State and Federal site surveys, Department of Health and licensure issues, and Federally Qualified Health Centers.  Mr. Shirley specializes in Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse laws, including establishing arrangements that comply with the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law.

Grant Achenbach is an Associate attorney and lobbyist in the firm’s Governmental Affairs and Public Advocacy Practice. Mr. Achenbach represents the firm’s clients before the Indiana General Assembly and state administrative agencies, advising clients on legislative and executive branch lobbying strategy, policy development, and coalition building. His lobbying experience has involved a wide array of health care issues, including medical malpractice liability, telehealth, employment contracting, health insurance matters, scope of practice and licensure, and health care price transparency requirements.  Prior to joining Krieg DeVault, Mr. Achenbach served as the Director of Government Relations for the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA). While at the ISMA, he represented the interests of Indiana’s physicians and physician groups and was responsible for developing and implementing the ISMA’s yearly legislative agenda.
