Program description:
For the most part, personal finance for physicians at every stage of their career is exactly like personal finance for everybody else: What is deductible for them is exactly what is deductible for everyone else – you just need a basic understanding of the tax code. In this session, you will gain that understanding and learn where it will benefit you most.
Residents (and many physicians) are employees, so the rules that apply to residents are found in the sections of the IRS code that deal with employees. Employees can theoretically deduct their unreimbursed work-related expenses. However, this is subject to two limitations that usually keep residents from saving anything on their taxes: You have to itemize your deductions, and you may only deduct the part of those unreimbursed work-related expenses that exceeds 2% of your adjusted gross income.
In this webinar, you’ll learn more about this and other potential ways to save on taxes.
Objectives:
At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Identify tax-saving vehicles.
- Obtain a foundation for exploring complex tax savings opportunities.
- Design their own portfolio based on their risk tolerance, time horizon and investment philosophy.
- Differentiate various allocation strategies and how to construct a tax-efficient portfolio.
Speaker:

Doctors Without Quarters (DWOQ)
About our Speaker:
Jack Vogel joined the DWOQ team as an institutional relationships manager in 2022. He provides education and other student loan solutions to DWOQ’s school, hospital and association partners. Jack transferred from the Larson Financial Group, where he served as a financial advisor for physicians and regularly gave financial presentations to many physician groups. Jack found his interest to be working with residents and early career physicians, with a true passion for presenting. So, it was natural for Jack to transition to DWOQ.
Jack graduated from the University of Missouri with a finance degree and holds several investment licenses. He also holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation, which is the hallmark planning credential awarded to those with extensive training in financial planning, investments and retirement planning.
