Program description:

The rate of recidivism for incarcerated individuals in the United States is 70% within five years of release, with few resources to assist re-entering individuals in finding housing, gaining employment or accessing social services. ISMA has resolved to focus attention on efforts that remove barriers and increase access to social services and benefits for re-entering individuals, such as food subsidies, health care and housing. ISMA is also committed to educating physicians about ways to connect re-entering individuals with needed resources in their communities.

Objectives: 

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the medical, behavioral health, and social challenges that individuals face when they leave incarceration.
  • Examine how CareSource innovatively serves those leaving the Indiana Department of Correction.
  • Describe how physicians play a critical role in the community ecosystem necessary to meet the complex needs of the returning citizen and foster successful re-entry into society.

bout our speaker:

Dr. Cameual Wright is the Indiana Market Chief Medical Officer for CareSource and is accountable for clinical quality and initiatives. She leverages clinical and business acumen to drive evidence-based corporate policy, high-quality health care delivery and effective population health initiatives.
She is responsible for initiating, growing, and maintaining working relationships with health care providers, state agencies and community-based organizations to improve the health and well-being of Hoosiers.

A vocal proponent of health equity, Dr. Wright dedicates both time and aptitude to efforts aimed at mitigating health disparities in Indiana and across the nation. She spearheaded both development and implementation of the CareSource Re-entry Program, which helps individuals leaving incarceration successfully establish medical care, find employment and address social determinants of health.

Dr. Wright received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan and earned her Master of Business Administration from Indiana University.

Prior to joining CareSource, Dr. Wright practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Indiana for 15 years and has held multiple leadership positions, including chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and president of the medical staff. She continues to passionately advocate for improvements and equity in maternal and infant outcomes, serving on boards and committees at the both the state and national level.
