March 20: First drafts due; please reach out to ISMA-MSS General Council members if you do not receive materials and instructions from the AMA-MSS.
April 15: Final drafts due after edits from initial feedback.
Late April-June: Formal reviews and voting process.
ISMA MEDICAL STUDENT SOCIETY NEWS:
It is time to start thinking about ISMA resolution writing deadlines for 2022. Importantly, for resolutions considered for the ISMA Annual Convention in September, the submission deadline is one month earlier this year: June 12, 2022.
In preparation for this earlier deadline, the ISMA-MSS GC is more than happy to assist authors in any way possible. If you need help with writing, the ISMA MSS GC will be hosting a resolution-writing primer presentation from the ISMA on April 4, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET. (Zoom link to follow).
General AMA Region Updates/News
AMA MSS Region 5 is continuing our region-wide community service project, having kicked it off at the November meeting. Your Region 5 General Council (GC) is helping local campus sections establish partnerships with local blood blanks to provide members with the opportunity to donate blood and encourage their classmates, friends and family to do the same.
The GC has put together a list of blood banks with contact information in each state in our region and have drafted a template for your schools to use when reaching out via phone or email. All you need to do is use these resources to create your partnership!
This community service project will also be a friendly competition between the schools in our region to see who can get the most pints donated by the June meeting! For service leads of each chapter who would like more information, please reach out to our very own sswiezy@iupui.edu!

Varying leadership positions are supported by the AMA for students just like us and are appointed at different points throughout the year. Many are currently full, but this may be a good tab to keep on your radar if you are interested! Also on this same link are 20-minute, interactive modules that offer advice, realistic scenarios and printable resources on student leadership from the AMA. These are offered as practical education to help medical students lead effectively.
FIRM Conference (Finding Inspiration and Resilience in Medicine)
Join ISMA on April 23 for this one-day, joint IUSM/Marian conference that includes an ISMA-sponsored session. This conference advocates for and provides strategies to combat burnout and improve well-being in those with careers in medicine. The event is still in planning, and the ISMA-MSS could possibly have a table for recruiting purposes. Please contact mpeesapati742@marian.edu if interested in helping plan!
