Guidance on fetal remains law expected soon
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) will work with stakeholders on guidelines for complying with a 2017 law requiring burial or cremation of fetal remains after a miscarriage or abortion.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the fetal remains provision of HEA 1337 in May, clearing the way for it to become effective. ISDH is waiting for formal guidance from the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on how to proceed and will notify ISMA and other stakeholders when more information is available.

ISMA will continue to keep members informed of any new developments.
