Alaina Turchi, MD, named 2022 ISMA Future Physician Leader for IUSM
The Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) has recognized Alaina Turchi, MD, with the 2022 ISMA Future Physician Leader Award for the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). The annual honor recognizes one graduating student at each of Indiana’s two medical schools who has worked to advance the leadership and impact of physicians and who exhibits compassion, respect and collaboration through advocacy, education and mentoring.

Dr. Turchi, who received her Doctor of Medicine degree from IUSM on Friday, May 13, served as ISMA Medical Student Society representative on the ISMA Board of Trustees for 2021-2022 and was the group’s alternate trustee in 2019–2020. She also was elected the service chair for Region 5 of the American Medical Association Medical Student Section. 

In addition, Dr. Turchi represented the Medical Student Society as a member of the ISMA House of Delegates and co-authored three resolutions in 2021 that were adopted by the House and added to ISMA’s Public Policy Manual. 

She will serve her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Earlier this month, Phi “Danny” Luong, DO, was named 2022 Future Physician Leader for Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Luong will serve his residency in psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
