AMPAC candidate workshop teaches campaign skills
Have you considered running for public office or are you currently planning to run? If so, the 2020 AMPAC Candidate Workshop will help you make the leap from medicine to the campaign trail by teaching the skills and strategic approach to launch a competitive campaign.

The workshop is Friday, Feb. 28, through Sunday, March 1, at the AMA office in Washington, D.C. The interactive curriculum is designed for AMA members, members’ spouses, residents, medical students and medical society staff who want to learn more about what it takes to be an effective candidate.

During the weekend, Republican and Democratic political veterans will share expert advice about politics and the sacrifices needed to mount a competitive campaign. Participants can ask questions and determine whether running for public office is the right decision for them.

Topics include:
  • How and when to make the decision to run.
  • The importance of a disciplined campaign plan and message.
  • Secrets of effective fundraising.
  • What kinds of media advertising are right for a specific campaign.
  • How to handle the inevitable crises that emerge for every campaign.
  • The role of a candidate’s spouse and family.
  • How to become a better public speaker.

AMPAC covers the cost of faculty, materials and all meals during the meeting. Participants will be responsible for the registration fee ($250 for AMA members / $1,000 for nonmembers), airfare and hotel accommodations at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill (AMA has secured a room block for a discounted rate).

Space is limited, and the deadline to register is February 3! Find more information on the 2020 Candidate Workshop, including how to apply >>

ATTENTION RESIDENTS AND STUDENTS: The registration fee is waived for residents and students, but space is limited to four slots. The AMPAC Board will review and select qualified participants from the pool of resident and student applicants.
