CDC recording on COVID-linked illness in kids available online
A recorded call by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about a multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) linked to the novel coronavirus is now available online.

The CDC issued an alert about MIS-C last week, asking physicians and other clinicians to be aware of the symptoms and to report any suspected cases. MIS-C is linked to the novel coronavirus and has sickened or killed patients younger than 21 in other states.

The first Indiana patient with MIS-C was confirmed Monday by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). An article published today by IU Health Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis said Indiana has “a small number of confirmed cases”; the Indianapolis Star quoted IU Health officials in reporting the number as four, with one patient having been discharged.

ISDH also issued an alert mandating reporting of suspected MIS-C cases as soon as possible through the NBS statewide surveillance system, along with guidance on how to report them. Providers who do not have access to NBS should report suspected cases directly to their local health departments, ISDH said.

More information on clinical evaluation for MIS-C and where to direct questions is available at the links above. To listen to the CDC informational call recording, go here.
