Following Gov. Eric Holcomb’s
Executive Order 20-13 issued March 30, the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency has launched the
COVID-19 Temporary Healthcare Provider Registry, available on the PLA website.
PLA created the registry to provide temporary permits for physicians and other health care workers who do not hold a valid license to practice in Indiana but want to join the fight against COVID-19. The registry is open to:
- Out-of-state health care practitioners.
- Retired health care professionals.
- Recent graduates of accredited medical, nursing, physician assistant and respiratory care programs.
To begin the process, individuals can visit the PLA's website at
in.gov/pla and quickly verify their health care credentials, to ensure quality of care is maintained. Once approved, these professionals will assist with screenings, telemedicine and other basic procedures, freeing regularly licensed medical professionals to continue their focus on the front line of the public health emergency.
As mentioned in last week’s
COVID-19 update, Indiana has a statute that provides immunity to licensed health care workers providing services during a public health emergency. Furthermore, Congress passed broad immunity for volunteers responding to COVID-19 in the recently passed CARES Act. ISMA is also advocating for broader immunity protections for physicians and health care workers that are needed in light of the unique circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
