Physician Advocacy Week at the Indiana Statehouse is an opportunity for physicians and society staff to connect with their legislators and share important information on legislative proposals that impact the practice of medicine. Because of changes to the General Assembly’s usual format due to COVID-19, this year’s physician advocacy event will be a week of virtual advocacy, with several opportunities for you to get involved!

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, several of the General Assembly’s legislative priorities impact health care policy and the practice of medicine. Physician Advocacy Week will give us a unique opportunity to make our voices as physicians heard on issues that will affect our practices and patients!

This year’s event will include a phone and email campaign, as well as a virtual legislative forum on Wednesday, March 17. We recognize that clinical schedules are busier than ever, so even if you can only partially participate, we encourage you to sign up and get involved where you can! By signing up on this page, you will receive legislative materials, legislative alerts, and agree to use your voice to further the practice of medicine in Indiana!

Use your advocacy materials and clinical experience to introduce yourself and discuss the importance of ISMA legislative priorities. State legislators want to hear from their constituents, especially those who know firsthand the impact of potential legislation on the practice of medicine.     Stay connected

Building and maintaining relationships with lawmakers is critical to ensuring Indiana remains a great place to practice medicine. Advocacy is not something you do in addition to your practice. Rather, advocacy is part of you practice. Take the lessons learned and connections made during Physician Advocacy Week and continue building relationships with your local lawmakers.

Use the Find Your Legislator tool on the Indiana General Assembly website to find contact information for your state senator and state representative at any time outside Physician Advocacy Week.

ISMA staff stands ready to assist you with scheduling, talking points, or other resources you need to stay connected. Please contact advocacy@ismanet.org with questions!
