Concerned about preventing chronic disease, ISMA Past President Kevin Burke, MD, and his associates created a booklet designed to educate patients about what it means to develop a healthy lifestyle.
The information addresses nine health factors:

- Tobacco use
- Alcohol use
- Stress management
- Periodic examinations
The health habits of Hoosiers especially interest Dr. Burke who serves as the Clark County health officer. During ISMA’s annual convention last September, he introduced a resolution urging the association to partner with the Indiana State Department of Health and other organizations to promote annual disease screening and educational programs in every county.
“People still don’t have a good concept of what is unhealthy,” explained Dr. Burke. “Educating patients is the key to promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing chronic diseases.”
