The Lake County Jail has received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) requesting changes in the way it provides health care. Without changes, the county may face a lawsuit. 

The jail has a suicide rate five times the national average.

The letter indicates that noncertified medical personnel perform the mental health evaluations at booking. As a result, contradictory and inaccurate information leads to mismanagement of the suicide watch list.

Healthnet, Inc. has received $10.5 million in federal stimulus money to expand and renovate two Indianapolis health clinics. 

Healthnet will use the funds to build a new health and dental center near East 10th Street and to renovate and expand Barrington Health Center.

The expansion should allow the centers to see approximately 33 percent more patients and will provide six additional positions for the center. 

The Lilly Foundation has contributed $1 million to establish a school of public health at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). 

Faculty for the school will come from the IU School of Medicine and School of Public and Environmental Affairs along with other programs.

The new school will help with programs and research at the IU Simon Cancer Center.

IU Bloomington is also converting its School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation into a school of public health.
