Data restriction program gains momentum among physicians
About 383 Indiana physicians are among 12,585 doctors nationwide enrolled in the AMA's year-old Physician Data Restriction Program (PDRP).
The Web-based program allows physicians to opt-out of sharing prescribing data with pharmaceutical representatives. It also lets enrollees register a complaint about inappropriate behavior of pharmaceutical companies or representatives, or make a general observation about the use of prescribing data.
However, the PDRP ensures that vital information on prescribing patterns will continue to be available for beneficial public health purposes.
Pharmaceutical representatives use prescribing data for customized sales and marketing to physicians and to review sales performances. But they are required to check the op-out list at least quarterly.
