Medicare news you can use

Check out New Medicare form
Beginning Sept. 1, 2008, providers will be required to use the new revised Medicare Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), CMS-R-131 (3/08). The new form, which replaces the ABN-G, ABN-L and the NEMB forms, may be used for all situations where Medicare payment is expected to be denied.

"While doctors are not required to use the new form at this time, practices can utilize this transition time to familiarize themselves with it," explained Jeri Biedenkopf, R.N., ISMA practice manager.

Quality reporting initiative provides incentives
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it is taking steps to encourage physicians and other eligible professionals to take part in the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), a program designed to improve the quality of care provided to Medicare beneficiaries.

Steps recently implemented, including a variety of new reporting options, are intended to make it easier for eligible professionals to participate and receive feedback on their performance.

The 2008 PQRI Program allows use of 119 measures that were published in the Physician Fee Schedule for 2008. Details about how you can qualify for an incentive payment under this new option are available online.
