ISMA Board supports new Health Care Notification Network

The recently established Health Care Notification Network (HCNN) offers you two major benefits. The network reduces paperwork and speeds delivery of product-related safety notices.

Recognizing these benefits the ISMA Board of Trustees agreed at its last meeting to support HCNN and encourage members to participate. A cover story in the April 7 ISMA Reports detailed the facts and governance of this new effort to increase patient safety.

After you take two minutes to enroll in HCNN by providing your e-mail address, you will no longer receive the familiar "Dear Doctor letters" from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Instead, you will receive medication recalls, warnings and national public health emergency notifications via your e-mail inbox. Members of your staff can enroll as well.

"Relying on paper-based U.S. mail and weeks of delay to deliver time-urgent patient safety alerts to doctors in 2008 is indefensible and unsafe," said Nancy Dickey, M.D., former AMA president and chair of HCNN's governing body.

Why should you continue to experience delays receiving notices that impact your patients' safety? Take advantage of current technology and make sure you are notified before your patients read about medication alerts in the newspapers.

Enrollment is free and your e-mail address will not be sold or disclosed to third parties. No spam or advertising will appear with the alerts you receive. If you try it and are dissatisfied, you can opt out at any time.
