HHS proposes rules on patient safety organizations, seeks comment
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced proposed rules for a national patient safety reporting program. The draft regulations, issued nearly three years after the 2005 Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act, outline requirements for initial or continued listing as a patient safety organization (PSO).
The HHS rules also detail security requirements for patient safety work products. Members of the public are invited to comment on the proposed regulation until April 14. Feedback will be used to shape the final regulation.
The Indiana Patient Safety Center intends to apply for certification as a PSO once the final regulations are issued. The ISMA has been a partner organization in the Indiana Patient Safety Center since its formation in 2006.
