HHS Secretary Leavitt visits Indianapolis to secure support for Value–Driven Health Plan

Leaders of key Indiana businesses met Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt and
Gov. Daniels March 7 to pledge support for a Bush administration plan to combat rising health care costs.

Gathering in Indianapolis, executives from Eli Lilly and Co., Wellpoint, Inc., Cummins, Indiana University, General Motors and others signed a document committing their organizations to the Four Cornerstones initiative.

During his visit to the ISMA last October, Secretary Leavitt discussed these cornerstones, which are: Connect (electronic health) systems, measure and publish quality, measure and publish price, and create positive incentives. To learn more, see ISMA Reports of Oct. 23, 2006.
