The ISMA has a partnership – and a new member benefit – to help you in the ever-changing environment of health care delivery. For practices considering an electronic health record (EHR) system, selection and implementation represent major hurdles. But your ISMA membership will now provide you with guidance, education and answers from an unbiased source.

Maxwell IT, ISMA’s newest partner, works exclusively with physician practices nationwide offering EHR selection advice, contract review, pre- and post-implementation services – and more.

“Maxwell IT prides itself on being vendor-neutral,” said Dan Kelsey, director of Member Services for the ISMA. “We worked with their consultants to offer a series of programs in 2008 that was well received. Since then, we’ve talked with other state medical societies who have partnered with Maxwell IT and heard very positive comments that led to this new partnership.”

Federal incentive programs will serve as the carrot – and then the stick – to motivate more medical practices to adopt EHR. But it’s difficult to know where to begin, how to get questions answered and even what questions to ask.

Maxwell IT can help with all those things. The company offers Webinars and seminars as well as the EHR Best Practice Series, which delivers personalized tools and feedback on potential vendors. (See below.)

“Because of our new partnership, ISMA members can now access Maxwell IT’s $75 online Webinar for free,” said Kelsey. “In addition, our members can enjoy discounts on other online consultations and in-depth Webinars to find EHR solutions.”

Kelsey said practices should plan to be very involved in the whole process and each educational session will require “homework.” He also noted working with Maxwell IT gives confidence that the EHR system a practice buys will meet meaningful use guidelines set by the 2008 HITECH Stimulus Act. “Maxwell IT is monitoring all the requirements and certification processes,” Kelsey added.
