A letter went out Jan. 29 from national organizations urging the Federal Trade Commission to exclude health professionals from the “Red Flags” rule – designed to prevent identity theft.

The letter was signed by leaders from the AMA, the American Osteopathic Association, American Dental Association and American Veterinary Medical Association. It noted Congress never intended the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 to apply to health professionals.
