You have until Oct. 5 to share in a more than $350 million settlement with UnitedHealth Group, but you must file before the deadline.
Do you qualify? You do if you provided out-of-network services to UnitedHealth patients between Jan. 1, 2002, and May 28, 2010.
The AMA is offering assistance with your damage claim. A guide provides step-by-step details regarding eligibility, documentation and claim filing under terms of the settlement. To get started, visit the AMA website.
The AMA worked for years with the medical societies of New York and Missouri to expose and prohibit a price-fixing scheme used by UnitedHealth and other insurers to underpay physicians and patients for out-of-network care. The companies agreed to meaningful reforms in determining out-of-network reimbursements, keeping them free from corporate manipulation.
“The AMA’s persistent efforts have earned significant results for physicians that extend far beyond the recovery of damages,” said J. James Rohack, M.D., AMA president at the time of the settlement last spring.
