The Patient’s Compensation Fund (PCF) by law makes payouts twice yearly, in mid-January and mid-July, and inexplicably, the July payout is typically the larger of the two.

In the recent July 15 payout, the number of cases paid increased, the number of cap-level cases increased, and the total payout increased.

Tina Korty with the Indiana Department of Insurance commented, “We're not surprised by the upward trend on total payout, since the number of $1 million-cap cases has steadily increased.”

The PCF paid two cases at the $650,000 cap level and 25 at the $1 million cap level.

The post-payout balance is $197,683,640.
