Following an interim election by the Board of Trustees to be president-elect, Heidi M. Dunniway, M.D., an Indianapolis otolaryngologist, was duly elected by the House of Delegates (HOD). During Presidents' Night activities, she took the oath to be ISMA president for the coming year.

Last year, Dr. Dunniway was elected speaker of the House; however, because of an officer resignation, she resigned from that position when chosen as president-elect. She previously served three terms as vice speaker.

A board-certified partner with Otolaryngology Associates, LLC, Dr. Dunniway is affiliated with six hospitals in the Indianapolis area and is on the clinical teaching staff at St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program. She joined the ISMA when she became licensed in Indiana in 1999.

Dr. Dunniway has served on the ISMA Board of Trustees, Commission on Constitution and Bylaws, which she chaired, and the Young Physician Society. She co-founded and co-chairs the ISMA Committee on Women in Medicine. She was also president of the Indianapolis Medical Society.

In her speech to the House, she announced that she was “honored to follow in the footsteps of Dr. Shirley Khalouf,” the ISMA’s first female president in 1987, and she thanked Dr. Khalouf for her leadership and example.
