The Immunization Division of the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) has a message for all birthing centers and hospitals regarding CHIRP, our state’s Immunization Information System. Beginning Aug. 1, the vital records import to CHIRP will no longer provide records for the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine. However, the vital records import will continue to send infant demographic information to the registry.

This change is being implemented to prepare for a legislative mandate that takes effect July 1, 2015. Hospitals participating in the Vaccines for Children program must meet a new requirement for entering complete records by July 31, 2014. Review the Indiana Code mandate here.

There’s also a new requirement regarding the registry’s lot inventory management. Read an official notification from ISDH on the ISMA website.

ISDH officials encourage hospitals and birthing centers to review the new law and to contact the CHIRP help desk with questions; via email or call (888) 227-4439.
