John Wernert, M.D., M.H.A., won’t be taking the oath to become the ISMA’s next president in September, as planned. The psychiatrist from Carmel has agreed to accept the position of secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, as officially announced June 25. Serving as ISMA’s president would, therefore, represent a conflict of interest.
Dr. Wernert served the ISMA as speaker and vice speaker of the House of Delegates, since 2008. He is a past president of the Indianapolis Medical Society and the Indiana Psychiatric Society. He has also served on the Medicaid Drug Utilization Review Board, the Medical Licensing Board and the Medicare Advisory Committee.
He began the full-time practice of psychiatry in 1989 and is currently a medical director for Eskenazi Health and the Franciscan Alliance.
