With help from the ISMA Medical Mission Sponsorship, Jeremy Bramwell, D.O., traveled to Haiti in January with members from Lifeline Christian Church. It was his first medical mission trip, and he described the experience as humbling and amazing.
Dr. Bramwell noted he expanded his clinical skills by learning to work without the availability of laboratory tests and imaging, and limited medications and resources. Also, he was impressed with the Haitian’s trust and respect in him as a physician.
“My appreciation for the American medical system was rekindled, despite its flaws and the rapidly changing landscape,” said Dr. Bramwell. “I am so grateful for the ISMA scholarship I was privileged to receive. It allowed me to fulfill one of my greatest dreams in getting started in medical mission work and provided me with a life-changing experience!”
You can apply for the ISMA Medical Mission Sponsorship if you are planning a trip in 2015. A stipend of up to $3,000 is awarded each November to an ISMA member to help defray costs.
Nominations for the next award will be accepted beginning Sept. 2, 2014, for trips taken after that date and any time in 2015. A recipient will be selected by random drawing in November.
