Medical students from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia met in Indianapolis Feb. 29-March 1 for the annual AMA-MSS Region 5 meeting at the IU School of Medicine. The event’s theme centered on personal awareness.

“We decided to take a different approach to the typical region meeting this year,” explained fourth-year medical student and AMA-MSS Region 5 Vice Chair Kilby Osborn. “Instead of focusing on policy and medical skills, we examined our inner self and what it means to stay inspired as physicians.”

Additionally, students participated in a community service project at the Keenan-Stahl Boys & Girls Club in Indianapolis. Pictured below are medical students showing children organs that have been affected by drugs and alcohol.

Region 5 members provided lessons on the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body, healthy eating, exercise, safety habits, mental health, and blood pressure screening.

Osborn noted his appreciation to the ISMA for assistance in putting together the regional meeting.
