After-hours last night, Congress passed – and President Obama signed – HR 4851 to again postpone the 21.2 percent Medicare physician rate cut. This most recent extension will retroactively restore Medicare payment levels to where they were on March 31 and extend 2009 payment rates through May 31.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has assured that any such claims will be reprocessed and payment adjustments made without physicians having to take any additional action. And the ISMA has learned that National Government Services, our Medicare contractor, did not process any Indiana claims with the 21.1 percent rate cut.

If you have not signed onto the petition organized by state and specialty societies to call for permanently replacing the Medicare physician pay formula – please do so today.
