The Affordable Care Act includes significant changes to the Stark Law that may affect your practice. The law outlines self-referral regulations for physicians, and any violation of the statute can result in penalties that include payment denials and fines.

Now, the AMA has an online toolkit to help you understand the law and identify which referral patterns and business relationships are permissible and which you should avoid.

The “Stark Law Rules of the Road” is a free interactive tool that walks you through six simple questions to determine how the law might apply to you. It also defines key terms and explains a number of exceptions that permit certain self-referrals.

Find it on the AMA website.
