The ISMA uses its resources, your dues dollars, to offer financial support to our state’s only medical school and to its students, making sure they know about our 162-year-old organization. That represents an investment in the future of both our profession and our ISMA.

As usual, this summer the ISMA hosted an evening of fun and relaxation for medical students, giving them an opportunity to hear directly from ISMA leaders and staff. Informal discussions allowed for sharing the ISMA mission and advocacy agenda.

Financial support
Since 1952, the ISMA’s Medical Education Fund has contributed more than $4 million to the IU School of Medicine, dollars the school uses in support of educational programs, typically through student scholarships and special projects. Currently, this donation stands at $100,000 annually.

In addition, the ISMA provides scholarships to select students, funding half their tuition for all four years of medical school. Since 2000, the ISMA has contributed $973,000 toward these scholarships.

The ISMA pays travel expenses so medical students from Indiana can attend two AMA meetings each year. A student group also attended AMA Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.

“We are grateful for the support of the ISMA,” said Jamie Johnson, chair of the Medical Student Society. “As its members continue to provide for us, we will continue to show our appreciation by promoting the best interests of fellow students, future colleagues and our patients.”
